Protection of rapid remote control systems
In case of underground laying of communications in polyurethane foam-insulation, pipelines are usually equipped with rapid remote control systems (RRCS). This system makes it possible to remotely monitor the state of both the communications themselves and the insulation layer. At the same time, the maintenance personnel have the opportunity to monitor the entire system in the real time, isolate the faults and perform other diagnostic operations.
To connect RRC to the system, its end and intermediate sections are laid at the surface. Connectors for RRCS terminals are installed in the place where the conductors are terminated, allowing control, monitoring and diagnostics. Taking into account that communication outlets can be located outside the controlled (and even - protected) territory, special protective structures are installed to prevent their damage.
Typical protective structure is RRC (ODK) cover:
- The basis of the cover is a piece of pipe connecting the body of the product with the pipeline itself. RRCS cables are laid inside the pipe and connect the underground part of the system with the assembly for connecting the remote control terminal.
- A cylindrical extension, inside which the connection assembly is located, is mounted in the upper part of the product. As a rule, the connection assembly is also made from a pipe, but as a template a product of a larger diameter is used.
- To access the cover cavity, the upper extension is equipped with a locking part (top or side). The locking part is fixed either with a lock or with an eccentric screw tongs. Sometimes other mechanisms for fixing the opening part are also used, but in any case they should be reliable and exclude not only accidental, but also deliberate opening of the cover.
By the type of installation, covers are divided into land and wall:
- The land cover is mounted on a thick cylindrical pipe installed on the ground. The foundation of the cover is made using a sand bed followed by concreting. This installation method ensures secure fixation of the structure.
- Anchor bolts are used to fix the wall cover. Using anchor bolts, the extended part is fixed to the wall, and the cables are led to it using a thinner connecting pipe.
- After installation, the surface of the cover is coated with an anticorrosive compound by painting method. If necessary, the product can be treated with anti-corrosion paint during its manufacture.
